“Win or lose, you still live to fight another day in the ring, for mental health and for women’s rights and empowerment.”
Mental Health Advocate
I grew up in St. Louis, MO. Growing up I have set my goals high and worked to meet all of them with a positive, determined mindset. I playing softball and lacrosse my entire life. It is not until I turned 18, that I started boxing.
Boxing has become a critical part of my life as I am working hard to get a shot at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Boxing is more than just a sport. It is great fun, of course. It is also a platform that I have been blessed with to spread my message about mental health and women's empowerment. Often times, people think that when you step outside of the ring, that the fight is over. I am here to give you a different perspective.
When you are battling with your own mental health, sometimes the ring is, ironically, the safest place. 1 in 4 people fight their own mind every day. I just so happen to be one of those four. My mental health battles do not stop me from competing, training, and pushing towards my goals. If anything, it is motivating. I can only hope to one day inspire individuals like me to use their story to empower others.
I am a firm believer that boxing is empowering. It defies all stereotypical gender norms and I love that! There's a certain stigma around women in nontraditional positions that I want to work to smash. Boxing allows me to defy the odds and prove to the world that women can simultaneously strong and beautiful. Strong is beautiful.
