Hello my name is Julia Simonyan, and I am a High Performance Elite Judo/MMA athlete.

My Journey.

I started my journey when I was young girl, I was invited to see my friend`s karate practice, in which I saw the beautiful formation of an aspiring black belt, and became inspired. I begged my parents to let me practice the sport, and so my training began. In the young age of 6/7 I worked hard and became a purple belt. It was in those times that I noticed my friends being bullied at school, and something inside of me broke, and I wished to be stronger. I left Karate and began practicing Jiu Jitsu at Gracie Barra Hollywood, which closed down just as I was about to start competing in Jiu Jitsu. My father then introduced me into Judo, the gentle yet killer sport in which I found my love. I have been training/competing now for 8+ years and my dream is to reach the Olympic Gold.

My Everyday Life.

When I am not doing sport, I am focused on building a strong foundation for my education. I am a senior at John Marshall High School, and have taken many Honors and A.P. classes. I’m usually at home taking care of my pets, or just plainly walking my dog. I love to cook, write poetry, and read religious texts.

What is Judo?

Judo is the balance of life, it is the fresh clean air you breathe in when you surround yourself in meadows. It gave me the definition of morality, it is the one sport that connected my soul to the physical world. It was the first martial art to be accepted into the Olympics in 1964 at Tokyo Japan. First practiced by the samurai and feudal warrior classes, Judo means “the gentle way,” referring to techniques which involve giving way to the force of one’s opponent.

My Ranking

I am currently # ranked Junior -70 kg in the USA 2018, #1 ranked last year in Cadet -70 kg in the USA. I’ve competed nationally throughout the U.S. all throughout these years, I am a 4x Winter National champion (all gold) of both IJF and Junior rankings, I’ve competed in the Houston Open tournament in Texas, and became a 2x gold medalist. I competed in the Junior Olympics and received for 2017 & 2018 gold for both international and national championships. My next event is my first international competition, the Jr World Championships in Bahamas Nassau.

My dream is to reach for the Olympic Gold in 2024/2028, and without your support, I don’t think I will be able to make it, especially with the financial burdens of student debts and costly demands the U.S is facing today.Your financial backing will enable me to clear financial hurdles that will enable me to concentrate on training and building the foundation that will foster the development of reaching the dreams and goals of Olympic Gold

Thank you!
